About Us

St Bernards is a residential care home in Olton, Solihull, providing 24-hour personal care / residential and dementia care for up to 43 older people. We're a home first and a service second. What matters here is that people feel known — their routines, their history, the way they like their tea.

Our care
We support older people who need help with day-to-day living, including personal care, mobility support, continence care and support for people living with dementia. Everyone who moves in has a care plan built around them — their preferences, relationships and goals — reviewed regularly with them and their family. We also offer respite and short-stay care, subject to availability.

The team is led by Registered Manager Daniela Munteanu, with senior carers and care staff on duty 24 hours a day. Staff complete a structured induction and ongoing training covering safeguarding, moving and handling, medicines, infection prevention, dementia awareness and first aid, with specialist training added where residents' needs call for it.

We work closely with local GPs, district nurses, pharmacists, dietitians and therapists so health needs are picked up early and managed well.

Technology that supports better care; Care plans and daily records are managed digitally through PredicAire, and medicines through the Camascope electronic system. Less time on paperwork, more time with residents — and families kept properly up to date.

Our home
St Bernards sits in mature, established grounds — the kind that take decades to grow and daily attention to keep. They are, without exaggeration, one of the best things about living here.

Our lounges and dining room look directly out over them, so the garden is part of daily life even for residents who'd rather stay indoors: the changing light, the seasons turning, the birds. For those who want to be out in it, there are level, accessible paths for walking or wheeling, and shaded seating for warmer days. One resident described getting into a routine of walking the garden each morning and sketching out there — which is exactly what we hope the space does for people.

Through spring and summer the garden becomes the centre of the home. Morning coffee outside. Lunch in the fresh air when the weather allows. Garden parties, barbecues and family events. Residents who've gardened all their lives are welcome to keep their hands in — potting, planting and tending the beds — and those who'd rather just sit and watch are equally at home.

Life at St Bernards
Days are shaped by residents rather than a timetable. Activities are planned around what people genuinely enjoy — music, gentle exercise, arts and crafts, gardening, reminiscence, baking, quizzes, films and visiting entertainers— alongside one-to-one time for anyone who prefers their own company or is cared for in their room. Faith services and religious observance are supported. Birthdays, anniversaries and family celebrations are marked properly.

Food
Meals are freshly prepared on site from a [four-week rotating] seasonal menu, with an alternative always available if the day's choice doesn't appeal. Special diets are catered for, including diabetic, soft and texture-modified meals and cultural or religious requirements. Drinks and snacks are available throughout the day and night.

Working with families

Families are part of the home, not visitors to it. Visiting is 24/7, and relatives are welcome to join meals, activities and events. We hold regular residents' and relatives' meetings and run annual satisfaction surveys — and we act on what people tell us.

Arranging a visit

The best way to get a feel for St Bernards is to come and see us. We're happy to show you around, answer questions and talk through fees, funding and the assessment process.
