Overview
About our home
We are a three storey, detached Victorian house with two later single storey extensions, standing in its own private grounds. It is set back from the main road and is approached by a private driveway which has a large expanse of trees and shrubs. We also have two further secure seating areas – a covered gazebo for sheltered outdoor living and a walled courtyard completes with a summer house.
Our location is a 10-minute walk from the shopping centre of Houghton or alternatively we are on a main bus route with a bus stop directly at the end of our drive.
Our main house was built in 1852 so is characterful and traditional. We encourage a relaxed, friendly and welcoming home.
Internally we offer accommodation for up to 22 people in one of our 22 single rooms, 8 of which have ensuite toilets, whilst the others all have private washing facilities. Ther are additional communal facilities located at strategic points around the home.
All rooms come equipped with the usual furniture, linen, nurse call point and internet access.
We have three main indoor communal areas, where residents and families are encouraged to socialise, unless they wish to go to their own private room. There are no restrictions around visiting in these areas as long as it remains conducive for others.
We have one formal dining room with seating for 22, however some often choose to eat elsewhere. We recognise the importance of good nutrition, so encourage people to dine where they feel comfortable. Relatives are also encouraged to participate in mealtimes.
We cater for specialist diets with the collaboration of the dietetic service. We will adapt to suit our residents needs. We do have a menu in place and this is reviewed regularly, incorporating suggestions from all. The menu is a guide only and requests for something else are granted wherever possible.
We care for people with all manner of challenges and frailties. We liaise closely with the various community nursing teams so that we have access to 24 hour nursing intervention as needed.
